Hey hey hey! We are back with another blog, and this time it’s to talk about one of my absolute favorite Apple TV shows—Shrinking!
Pretty much every single episode this season brought me to tears, and that’s no exaggeration. I felt like they dealt with so many deep rooted feelings this season, whether it be starting a family, the loss of a patient, the lingering loss of a loved one, unresolved childhood feelings or family drama, and even moving forward with life. This season truly had it all. Honestly, looking back on this season it’s amazing how much happened in the amount of episodes we got! We went from Jimmy and Alice becoming friends with Luis (and Gaby’s resentful feelings about that), to Gaby struggling with the loss of one of her patients, to the drama that ensued between Brian and Charlie as they tried to expand their family and adopt a baby. Then to Jimmy struggling with letting go and moving on from the loss of Tia (his wife) and also jumping back into the dating game, as well as his unresolved childhood feelings towards his father, and then ending the season on a bang with a lot of the characters moving on and forward, such as Alice going to college, Derek hoping to travel more after his cardiac issues, Brian and Charlie heading to Tennessee, Paul moving to Connecticut, Gaby getting engaged, and even Sean moving out and taking a new job. One of my favorite things about Shrinking (and I think what makes the show so good) is how relatable it is. They aren’t afraid to really dive into the nitty gritty of life and how messy it can be sometimes. How things won’t always necessarily go your way, no matter how much you plan, but how that can sometimes lead to newer and better things. It’s about learning how to heal from your past, and move forward from things that have hurt you. It’s about forming community and family with people that you love, and accepting them for who they are even with their flaws. It is such a beautiful show. The ending of this season was so bittersweet as we watch everyone kind of go off and do their own things. I am really curious to see how the next season follows up with this, especially since Paul is living on the other side of the country now (which I feel is especially going to make the show interesting, because Harrison Ford is the heart of the show!). The world of Shrinking is so expansive in so many ways. With subplots among subplots, it was so fun getting to watch all the characters this season help each other out and work together to work through their hurt. Whether it was Paul’s Parkinsons, or someone not getting a rock from Liz, the show truly was not at a lack of emotion this season. I cannot wait to see what they do in Season 4. Will it take place during a summer break, when everyone is back in Pasadena and visiting each other? I imagine we will see great personal growth, or even a lot of different side plots, such as getting glimpses into Alice’s college life, Paul’s life in Connecticut, Gaby’s wedding, and even more into Sophie and Jimmy’s new relationship. Either way, I am glad that the show is continuing on. It’s always such a joy to watch. What did you guys think of the Shrinking finale? Are you excited for Season 4?
