Hi friends! Wow, the start of the year has completely flown by, hasn’t it? I’ve thought to myself many times in the last few weeks “this is the week I’m going to start my blogs for the year again!” and then was immediately so busy that I couldn't find time to sit down and write!
I feel like January was SO much fun, and also filled with sooo much chaos. For starters, if you remember from last year, I had a heart monitor on for a period of time in February 2025. The results had come back okay, and everything looked good. But then the end of December, my heart rate started to get a bit fast again and…well…looks like I’ll be going back to the cardiologist this year 😭 I’ve been feeling pretty sluggish and have been getting tired more easily, on top of my fast heart rate, and it’s been making getting content out a bit of a challenge, because I truly never know how I’m going to feel each day. So for now, I’ve been taking it easy, taking lots of breaks when I need to, and waiting it out until I can get some answers from a medical professional. But on the good side of things, January was also filled with lots of fun! I came back from the holidays at the start of the year, and caught up with a lot of my friends which was so very lovely. I got to go to the Wonder Man premiere (which was an incredible show, by the way! I gave my thoughts on the show in my GRWM video posted today 🤭) and overall, I’ve just been working on getting back into the groove of things again. It’s been nice to be back in L.A. (especially away from the cold—sorry to you guys who just had that big snow storm!). I’m really excited to see what February has in store for our Miss Jess Parker community! I’m testing out some new content, hopefully planning to get back into some YouTube videos this month, and also just working on making sure I have a good work-life balance. I’ve been reading a lot more, which has been so nice! I’m in the middle of Winter Soldier: Cold Front, which one of you had recommended me, and I am absolutely loving it so far. I’m hoping to finish it this weekend. Oh! And, of course, finally get back into watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D…it’s been too long! Hope everyone’s start to their February has been absolutely superb. Sending you all a bunch of virtual hugs, and looking forward to getting back into lots of fun content :) Love you guys! -Jess 💕

I have been chomping at the BIT to be able to chat with you all about this one, and I finally had time to compile my thoughts! As you all know, OMITB is one of my favorite shows ever. I absolutely love everything about it, from the mystery of it all, to the characters, and all of the jokes. It’s just one of those shows that I look forward to watching the episode of every week when a new season drops, and this season was no exception.
As a whole, I loved getting to learn about Lester’s history and why he became a doorman in the first place! I think that’s one thing that OMITB does so well in every season. I love how they give us the stories of the murder victims and how it connects to solving their murder (like Lester’s bird whistle in this season!). I think I am definitely getting much better at solving the murders though, because I CALLED it with the mayor. He just HAD to have been the murderer, and I knew. The way he was sneaking around everything and trying to get people’s votes had me too suspicious of him. I thought it was really interesting with the casino plot, and how it all came to be at the end. I shed a tear when I saw that Lester’s wife had bought herself an apartment in the Arconia! But the thing I wanted to talk about the most was the setup for the murder of the next season. I cannot WAIT to see Tina Fey’s backstory into her character, Cinda! I was not expecting her to be the next victim at all, but this is one that I am ABSOLUTELY looking forward to watching. CINDA CANNING?! I can’t even. My starting theory right now is this. We get the little tidbit from her podcast episode that she was trying to protect a girl from the UK and was sending her to the States to make sure that she was okay. Which leads us to the clip of Cinda in front of the Arconia. I think that she had gotten the girl over to New York, as she described in her podcast, but that once the girl got here, they switched clothes. Cinda dyed her hair to look like the girl she was protecting, and wore her clothes to trick whoever was tracking her down. So she was not actually the intended murder victim here, but got caught in the crossfire. And she knew that the only people who would be able to solve the murder, and protect the girl that she had come over to New York, was the OMITB crew I am SO excited to see where next season takes us. They are so good about making each story unique, and not dragging out the “someone got murdered in the building AGAIN” plot line (which I love that they made fun of themselves in this last episode, with Cinda literally having to sling her hand over the gate for it to count as “in the building” hahah!). What did you guys think of the finale? Any theories on your end? I would love to hear your thoughts! Until the next blog, -Jess :) This blog contains spoilers for Marvel Zombies—read at your own risk! Guys guys guys guys GUYS we have SO much to chat about with this Marvel Zombies series! Look, as someone who does not like gore or blood or horror, I was a little worried about what I was getting myself into with this one. However, I REALLY loved the Marvel Zombies What If…? episode that they had released during the first What If…? season. So that alone made me excited to dive into this one. I am DYING (haha) to talk about what happened. We start off strong with our Young Avengers girlies, Kate, Riri and Kamala. Already I was having a blast, because while the Young Avengers isn’t canon to the MCU yet, I really really really want it to be, and this is the closest we’ve got so far! It was so much fun to see these three interact with one another, and I hope that this is just the beginning of what is to come in future projects with them! I absolutely loved how the plot centered around Kamala, it was such a pleasant surprise! I don’t know what I was really expecting with this show, but Kamala taking the lead with her little shrunken communication device was so awesome, and I could hear Iman Vellani shrieking with excitement in my head over how she got to be the lead of this show. That being said, I was DEVESTATED when they killed off Kate’s character. I was in denial for the first like 10-15 minutes, and thought that she was going to come back. When she didn’t…man, was that a bummer. I honestly would have even preferred her being a zombie than COMPLETELY dead, because at least we could have gotten her a little more screen time that way 😂 But at least she wasn’t suffering like the rest of the zombies were, so I guess that’s a plus for her. Ah, well. My poor Kate Bishop 😭 F.R.I.D.A.Y. being just a floating stuffed animal on an Iron Man suit had me cracking up, too, and totally something the three of them would have done. It felt straight out of a fanfiction, and I love how they interacted with F.R.I.D.A.Y. And it was cool to see how the three of them built their lives around the zombie apocalypse! Especially how they all hung out at Kate’s mom’s place. Also, Blade Knight is one of the COOLEST characters! It was so much fun to watch his interactions on screen as a character we haven't seen in the MCU before! Admittedly, I don’t know much about Blade, but this made me want to pick up a comic or two to see what he’s all about. I loved the callback to the Black Widow movie, with how Melina is using the same technology she used to control the pigs with the zombies. She absolutely would, and I loved how they incorporated that into the show. Plus, it was so fun to see the Widow family together again. (Is that what we would call them? Red Room family? I don’t even know hahaha). Any chance to see more Alexei and Yelena on screen always has me excited, so that was great! Also, Okoye serving, in more ways than one. Love that for her! She was a SICK looking zombie, and I loved that she served the Queen of the Dead. These episodes also made me realize how much I miss Shang-Chi, Katy and Jimmy Woo! It’s been too long without them on screen, and seeing the fight style with the ten rings made me realize how much I’ve been craving more live action ten-rings fighting. I can’t wait to see more of Shang in Doomsday, but he should have gotten Shang-Chi 2 a long time ago at this point! Also, Zemo as the leader of the Raft was CRAZY WORK. I knew there had to be a catch, so him feeding everyone to Namor and the zombies of Talokan sure wasn’t a surprise at all, but it still definitely caught me off guard hahaha. Yelena’s death also made me sad. They really were out here killing 2/3rds of my favorite (headcanon) trio! First Kate, then Yelena. I was starting to stress about Peter, and was so glad they didn’t kill him off in the other episodes. But man, Alexei grieving not only his love, but his daughter as well, sure broke my heart. The way Kamala had to sit and encourage him was so heartbreaking. Episode 3 I thought was such a beautiful tribute to Chadwick Boseman. I was so happy that they didn’t recast someone to voice him, especially since the Marvel Zombies What If…? episode was one of his last projects before he had passed. I thought the way that they had Peter narrating what had happened was so beautifully well done and such a great way to honor Chadwick and his performance as The Black Panther. It was fun to kind of see the parallels in this episode to Avengers Infinity War, but Zombie Thanos was definitely terrifying to watch (not to mention how he killed of Rocket! That was awful!). Scott’s floating head still cracks me up every time I see it, and I loved that we got to see a little more of Blade interacting with Khonshu in this episode as well. As soon as Wanda showed up at the Asgardian feast though, I knew we were in for a bad time. I thought to myself “oh my god. She can warp reality. She totally is turning them all into zombies right now.” And then when the feast changed, I practically threw up HAHAH. It was so grossssss 🤮. But totally what our girl Wanda would do given the circumstances. All I could think during the Wanda and Thor fight was about the “who is the strongest Avenger” argument that has been going around the internet for years. I guess this answered for us that it’s Wanda, at least in this scenario. Poor Thor 😭 And I was so sad about Alexei becoming a zombie, too! And the way that he had a delayed reaction compared to everyone else because of his super soldier serum 😪 It made it so much more sad to think about it that way. And then we jump to the team finally getting to space. Guys. I was JUST AS UPSET as Kamala was when they got up there and it turned out that the Nova Corps had quarantined earth. All they wanted was help to defeat the zombie apocalypse, and they went through all that pain and suffering and loss only for it to mean absolutely nothing in the end. And I get that this was the whole point of the episode, that is why the characters feel so upset about it as well. But man. What a bummer. Infinity Hulk was SUPER cool. I talked a little bit about this in my “GRWM and Chat About Marvel Zombies” video that I had posted to TikTok this week, but I think the only thing that bothered me in this series was the confusion I had about Infinity Hulk’s character in particular. If he possesses the power of all the stones, wouldn’t he have power from the time stone to turn back time to before all of this began? Some of you in my comments explained that, while he has the power of the stones, he does not posses their specific qualities but rather just power itself. So he can’t turn back time, but he’s extremely powerful. Which, I suppose that does make some more sense. I still feel it’s a little bit plot-holey though. Maybe I’ll have to rewatch for more clarification/to see if I missed their explanation. And I can’t NOT talk about the ending of this show, because how HORRIFYING. Not only did pretty much everyone die, but then Kamala gives Wanda her power and then we see she’s stuck in a weird fake-reality world where the zombies aren’t real?! TERRIFYING. I don’t watch much horror, but my friend Tracie was explaining that this was a very typical horror-style ending, where it kind of leaves you on the edge of your seat. But I just hope this means that we will potentially get a season 2 sometime in the future! What did you guys think of Marvel Zombies? Do you think we’ll get a season 2? And if so, what are you hoping we’ll see? I hope we get to see a bit more of some of the characters that they didn’t touch upon, like Agatha! :) Until next time! -Jess (@missjessparker) Hi my loves! I can’t believe we’re at the start of another month. Time flies when you’re having fun, as they say, and August was full of it! A lot of my videos are skit based, and talking about different film and TV characters, which is always such a blast for me! But I also sometimes feel that I don’t share as much about myself with you all, which is why I love these blogs so much! It’s such a nice way to check in and tell you all a little about what’s been going on behind the scenes. So let me tell you about my August! I made it a goal last month to really try and go out and explore a little bit more, because working from home sometimes gets me really trapped in work mode, and then I don’t leave the house. And looking back on the month, I think I really achieved it! I started the month off by seeing a third screening of Fantastic Four with one of my friends, and we saw it in IMAX 3D which was, dare I say, fantastic! I feel like it really enhanced the experience of the film. And we had such a good time! I also went to see Jurassic Park LIVE at the Hollywood Bowl! It was such a cool experience, because a live orchestra played the music on stage as the movie played above them. And it had been quite a while since I had seen Jurassic Park, so it was fun to revisit the franchise after so long. I also started thrift shopping a lot more this month, which has been such a blast! I never really thrifted much before, and a lot of my friends really enjoy it, so it has been such a wonderful experience to go thrifting with them. I even had some luck with finding some wonderful thrift finds of my own. These two dresses are sooo beautiful, and fit me like a glove, as if they were waiting for me there! Super cute, and a fun (yet cheaper) way to expand my wardrobe. I’m definitely going to continue thrifting some more in the future :) I’ve also been all about my movies and shows this month. I saw “Oh, Hi!” in theaters with a few of my friends, which was a fun one! I got to go to a “Dress Like Tess: Freakier Friday” event, hosted by Disney (and with Jamie Lee Curtis there!) and I loved it so much! And I watched K-Pop Demon Hunters for the first time, too! I’ve added Golden to my Spotify playlists hahaha 🤭 And of course, I have been ALL over “The Summer I Turned Pretty”. I have loved getting to watch the episodes each week and go on Threads to see what everyone has been saying. All the jokes about Jeremiah and his chocolate mirror glaze cake have been absolutely killing me 😂 And as the month came to a close, I also saw “Fantastic Four” for a FOURTH time, and “Honey, Don’t”! (If you’re interested in seeing any of my movie reviews, you can check out my Letterboxd account here!) Another huge point of excitement this past month for me as well has been MUSIC! Laufey dropped her new album, and I took myself out on A Very Laufey Day (you can watch the vlog here!). And I have been listening to Sabrina’s new album quite literally non-stop since it dropped last week! And of course, we can’t talk about the music industry without mentioning what’s been happening with Taylor Swift. A new album announcement, a podcast episode, AND an engagement all in August?! Us Swifities are WINNING!! I’m so excited for all that’s to come in the Swiftie community. August was probably the busiest month I’ve had in a while, but I had so much fun! Challenging myself to explore a little more and spend more time with my friends was definitely beneficial to my mental health, and I have so many fun memories from the past handful of weeks.
This month is both a mix of continuing some adventures, while also going into “The Great Lock In” as everyone has been calling it. I’m looking forward to creating more content for you all, and going on even more adventures as we come to the start of fall. I hope you all also had a great August, and are having a wonderful start to your September! Sending you all a big great virtual hug 🤗 -Jess Parker #gifted Thank you Disney for giving me early access to the Eyes of Wakanda episodes that I was able to watch before they were released on Disney+! All thoughts and reviews on the episodes are my own.
Hi hi hi! My friends, we have an INCREDIBLE show to chat about today! Eyes of Wakanda recently came out on Disney+, and I have SO many thoughts! We for sure need to spread the word about this one. Another amazing project developed by Ryan Coogler, and a wonderful love letter to Wakanda and it’s past. Let’s jump in! (And, of course, SPOILERS for Eyes of Wakanda if you haven’t seen it yet!). It took me a little bit to get used to the animation style of this show, but by the end of the four episodes, I was so excited that they chose this one specifically! I felt like it made it really stand out, and gave it a new feel. Marvel Animation has been absolutely killing it with these new projects lately! I’m going to go through each episode individually and talk about what I liked, but I also wanted to say that as an overall concept, the show was great. I love how it showed Wakanda trying to protect itself through generations, and throughout history, and I especially love how they tied everything back to the greater MCU story arch at the end! Fantastic. It was such a cool way to give us more backstory on Wakanda’s history. Let’s start with episode one, “Into the Lion’s Den”. I would say that this episode was probably my least favorite of the four, as it didn’t have me as hooked, though the story was still fantastically spelt out! Noni’s character was great, I adored her and thought she was a great first pick to lead the charge into this new story. And it brought up a good point about what would happen if someone grew up in Wakanda and chose to steal and use the weapons from the inside to grow an empire in the outside world. We kind of saw the opposite of that with Black Panther and how Killmonger had grown up in the outside world, and was trying to break in to steal Wakandan tech. So this was an interesting twist. It was so fun to watch the infiltration of Nkati’s base, and now Noni was handling the mission. And I absolutely LOVED how her character became the kind of leader-figure of the War Dogs after their main mission! Which leads us to Episode 2: “Legends and Lies”. I could not believe it when the story began during the Trojan War!!! I absolutely love Greek Mythology and stories from Troy, so I was all over this episode! Memnon was such a lovable character, and I felt for him for all the sacrifices he had to make. He was trying so hard to do what was right for his country, while also staying true to his friends. Which, of course, ultimately led to him being Achilles’ cause of death in the end. He had to kill his best friend, for the good of Wakanda :(. But you guys, I just absolutely loved seeing this Marvel retelling of the Trojan Horse story, and how Wakanda had their own secret mission alongside everything that was happening throughout the Trojan War. My heart broke for him when Achilles deemed him as a traitor, and of course again when he had to kill Achilles. That must have been such a hard and long mission to be undercover like that for NINE YEARS! Episode 3: “Lost and Found” was also such a fun watch for me! I loved Jorani’s character in this one, but Basha was absolutely giving me second hand embarrassment from watching him make all these bad decisions hahah! Like taking the ENTIRE dragon head. Of course someone is going to notice that and follow you, dude! But what I was not expecting was THE IRON FIST PLOT TWIST!! That was actually incredible, and I loved this variation of Iron Fist as well! Jorani is such a fun new character, and I hope they bring her back in some form or another in the MCU! I know at this point it was like 1400 AD, so probably not, but it was cool to see either way! And lastly, Episode 4: “The Last Panther”. This one was SUCH a cool way to tie it to the entirety of Wakanda, both past, present, and future! Prince Tafari was a cute character, you could tell that he just wanted to be a part of protecting and making his country great. The Queen of Wakanda showing up from the future and asking for their help was something I entirely was not expecting in this episode, and it made for such a good twist. And of course, this makes for an intense episode. Kuda and Tafari having to try and return the ax to it’s place so that the future of Wakanda is saved is such an awesome plot. And it gave Prince Tafari so much character development as well, as he realizes that he won’t get credit for this, but that it is for the good of all of the future of the Wakandans. And even if he doesn’t get that written down as credit, he knows in his heart that what he did was right. And then, how it ends up being THE AX THAT KILLMONGER STEALS IN BLACK PANTHER?! What a twist! It makes me wonder if the War Dogs were in some way involved in Black Panther, and they are hoping to kind of touch on that in future MCU movies? I guess we’ll see! Overall, I think my two favorite episodes were absolutely 2 and 4. I love how they connected all of these together, and the story of the War Dogs in Wakanda. I hope we get to see some live action War Dogs at some point, and this show was such a fun tie in to learn more about Wakanda’s history! If you decided to read through this without having watched the show, despite the spoilers, I highly recommend giving the show a watch. It’s a quick one with only four episodes, but definitely worth it for the stories, and the animated art alone. Thank you so much again to Disney for allowing me to have early access to the episodes! And I hope you guys love Eyes of Wakanda as much as I did! If you watched it, give me a little comment and let me know what you thought! Did you have a favorite episode? I’d love to hear your thoughts too! :) Until next time! -Jess <3 Hi! :) Hope everyone is having a terrific week so far! I’ve been deep into the Marvel fandom fun (I’ve seen Fantastic Four THREE times now!) and have been reading lots of comics recently! With the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day behind the scenes content we’ve been getting, and my newfound love of Johnny Storm, I have been absolutely LOVING getting to read all of the fun crossover comics <3 Nothing is better than watching characters joining/returning to the MCU, and then getting a whole bunch of content to fall back on after! Gotta love comics 🥰
I don’t know about you guys, but my July was absolutely CRAZY, and I feel like this past week I have just been starting to come out of that. So many things to get done, and not enough time. Today especially, as I sit down to write this blog, I feel like my brain is all over the place! I have a million things to do, and I just can’t focus on anything 😂 At this point I just want a nap and an iced coffee, hahaha! With the rest of August ahead of us, I’m really looking forward to getting to see some of the new films coming out (did someone say Freakier Friday?!) and also just getting to enjoy the end of the summer before we jump into the final four months of the year. Am I the only one that feels like this year absolutely FLEW by? I feel like I’m going to blink and August is going to be over! Also, can we take a second to talk about The Summer I Turned Pretty? I have to watch today’s episode still, but it’s been so much fun getting to watch each week and see what everyone is saying and whose side they are on! I have been loving the Team Conrad vs Team Jeremiah controversy, especially as someone who has read all three books 🤭 Personally, I am team neither. They both have just treated Belly so poorly. But if I absolutely HAD to choose…Team Conrad. Anywho, not a super long blog today! Just wanted to check in, give you guys some Jess updates and see how all of you are doing. I hope everyone is staying cool amid the summer heat! It’s been pretty toasty here the past few days 🥵 And I will see you guys this week! I am hoping to do at least a Twitch Stream or a TikTok live to chat with you all at some point. It’s been too long! Have an absolutely wonderful rest of your Wednesday, and I will see you in the next blog! -Jess <3 You guys, you guys, YOU GUYS!!! I have so many thoughts on this movie, and I cannot wait to share them with you all! But before we dive in, as always, I want to give a little warning that this blog post will contain spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps! So now is your chance to STOP READING if you don’t want any spoilers!
Okay, here we go! Let’s get the puns out of the way—this movie was absolutely fantastic. Right from the get go, from the visuals, to the way they introduce the characters, I was immediately hooked into the story. I loved how they gave such a good little recap of how they got their powers and who they all are before jumping into the main plot, but without making it drawn out or boring! I love the little telecast way of sharing all about them. So so cute. And I have always ADORED retro future style (it gave such Tomorrowland vibes, and I loved it!). Of course we jump right into their little family, learning about Sue becoming pregnant and how special this moment is for Sue and the rest of the family! I loved the scene where Reed is worried and is trying to do all his tests, and Sue just makes her stomach transparent so that they can look at Franklin. So adorable. I have not been able to stop saying “I herald his beginning, I herald your end, I herald Galactus.” ever since watching the full scene. Silver Surfer was SOOOOO cool in this film! I loved what they did with her character, and she looked spectacular. Even just the details they put in adding reflections against her body was crazy cool. I think one of my favorite sequences in the whole film was right after they met Galactus, and the whole part of the movie where Sue is giving birth on the ship. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! Literally was such an incredible scene, I want to see the movie again just to watch that section! And then the way Reed just nonchalantly is like “yeah, no, Galactus is gonna eat our world because we don’t wanna give up our son, sorry” WAS WILD. Of course the world would be angry at them for that. But we are also so attached to the four and their family story, that we don’t want Franklin to be given up either! It was so interesting to try and watch them come up with new plans on how to defeat Galactus from destroying their world. Like, trying to transport the entire planet to a different solar system is WILD. A part of me kind of wishes Silver Surfer didn’t ruin the plan, just so we could have seen what that looked like 😂 But it’s okay, because the section where we learn that Silver Surfer is actually Shalla-Bal, and the Times Square sequence where Johnny shows her the voice recordings from her planet was so rewarding to watch. Another one of my favorite scenes! It gave me chills! And then we get to their new plan, which is BABY BAIT. Actually wild, but saw that coming kinda hahaha. I kind of loved it though, again, the tension of watching them lowkey fail that plan and Franklin almost being taken away was another edge-of-my-seat moment. And Franklin was so cute! But I will say, I predicted him reviving Sue from a MILE away. I was watching like “there is no way they’re gonna kill her off, the baby will save her” and I was so right hahah. I’m not sure if this was their intention, but that to me kind of mimicked the scene in the Avengers when Tony is laying on the ground and the team is standing over him, and Tony wakes up after Bruce yells. The group of them all kind of standing in similar positions just gave me flashbacks. I loved the bit of them trying to get the carseat into the Fantasticar at the end, too, that was absolutely hilarious, and a cute way to end the film :) and then immediately I gasped at the “four years later” end credit. And DOOM!!! I knew it was coming, but I am SO EXCITED. And even more so now that we know that this end credit most likely takes place before the Thunderbolts* end credit. Oh my god. I cannot wait to see how they tie these all together. I’m curious if the end credits will also become scenes in the movie, similarly to what they did for Avengers Endgame and Infinity War scenes. My last and final thought is…my boy H.E.R.B.I.E.!!! I adored him so much! His little beeps reminded me so much of WALL-E, and he was so precious. I loved him running around trying to build the crib and baby proof the house. That was absolutely adorable. I am hoping to find him when I go to Disneyland in the coming week 🥰 I give this one a solid 4.5/5 stars. All around, the film was great, the visuals were perfect, and it was like a comic book jumping out of the screen. I loved it, and cannot wait to watch it again! I’m so excited to see how this ties into the greater MCU! What did you all think of Fantastic Four: First Steps? Let me know in the comments, or leave me a comment or emoji in my broadcast channel! Until next time :P -Jess <3 ⚠️This blog post contains spoilers for episodes 4-6 of Ironheart!⚠️
And we are BACK with another blog post for the week! Sorry I had to postpone this for a bit my friends. My week last week got CRAZY busy, but I’m excited to chat with you guys about Ironheart Episodes 4, 5 and 6 today! As always, this blog post will contain spoilers, so if you don’t want to be spoiled this is your chance to EXIT THE BLOG. Alrighty, let’s jump right into episode 4. I love love love LOVE Zelma’s character, and I hope we get so much more of her in the future of the MCU!! Maybe it’s because I loved Agatha so much, and I have been craving more witchy MCU magic lately hahah 😂 Anyways, she was such a fun addition to the cast, and I’m so curious how she is going to tie in to future projects! I adored her whole vibe. I thought the addition to the plot of Xavier being upset about making Natalie into an AI was a GREAT topic to add into the overall show, especially since that is a continuing issue and discussion in real life. Should we be using AI to create replicas of those we have lost? It’s a deep conversation, and they addressed this so well. I will say, I have to admit that I was kind of sad with the direction they ended up going with Zeke. I was so excited for him to have kind of more of a redemption and not turn into a crazy monster guy who wants to kill his Iron Man equivalent. So when they charged him up with super tech to make him the bad guy, I was kind of disappointed. I’m sure there will be more to his story as they continue to have him in the MCU, but I felt like the whole point of his character is that he didn’t want to follow in his dad’s footsteps and be the bad guy, so I was kind of sad when the story lead in that general direction. I know that towards the end he kind of shows that he doesn’t want to be fighting Riri and plays both sides of the coin, but man, I wanted more than anything to have a kind of Riri and Zeke buddy cop moment, and was sad we didn’t get that ☹️ Anyway, that leads us into the plot of episode 5. Literally, when they started talking about Dormammu, I was CRACKING up because I had literally guessed that in my last blog post about the first three episodes! Obviously, that ended up being a red herring, but for a handful of seconds it was absolutely hilarious to me. Then, Parker’s crew all fight Riri in a White Castle and she’s almost killed by Zeke. Parker taking control of Zeke was absolutely NOT the vibe, I hated that for him so much!! And gonna be so real, that also kind of bothered me, too. You’d think that for someone who knows that these people were NOT good people, and also someone who knows the general workings of the tech that he has bought, that he would have maybe realized that Parker was up to something? But I guess that is also the point. He was desperate to get out of jail, and this was the solution. I dunno. Zeke’s plot overall was both entertaining and also made me kind of upset (if you couldn’t tell HAHAH). But thank you, Zeke for trying to save Riri and telling Parker she was dead when she wasn’t! Slay of you! And then Riri building her new suit out of Gary’s old car was SUCH a cool thing for them to do, I absolutely loved that! And her new suit looks sick! I hope they keep it for a little bit. I feel like the MCU costuming department has a tendency to give them a brand new costume at the end of the show, only for them to have something completely different when they show up again in a different project. Which is super cool, because I love having outfit variety! But this suit is just so perfect 😍 Losing N.A.T.A.L.I.E. to the magic in the suit though? Not a slay there. That was a bummer :( Alrighty, let’s wrap this up with Episode 6. Arthur being Parker’s dad was a plot twist that I truly should have seen coming, but did not, and that made it all the more entertaining HAHAH. This show was just full of surprises! And then it was revealed that, instead of Dormammu, this whole time it was MEPHISTO!!! The character that we have wanted in the MCU for YEARS has finally arrived! It’s super exciting to have him in the MCU, especially after so many years of people wondering if he was going to be tied to the other plots. And super super interesting to have him in this specific project as well! Riri frees Zeke from the hold that Parker has on him, and I hope that this means they are on good terms and will continue to see each other in the MCU!! I loved their interactions, they were so much fun. And then Riri battles it out with Parker and takes the cloak from him, winning the battle. Now bear with me guys, because this is where I kinda start to not like the end of this show. After all that, while watching the way that Mephisto had corrupted Parker and KNOWING how evil Mephisto is, she still decides to make the deal with him to bring back Natalie 😭 And I know, I know. There’s multiple reasons for this. Riri would obviously do anything to get Natalie back, even making a deal with the literal devil. And I know Riri’s whole vibe is that she kind of has a chip on her shoulder, god complex, and feels that she can kinda figure her way out of this one. But personally, I felt that the ending (for me) wasn’t as satisfying as I had hoped 😭 Now I’m sure this will lead us directly into Doomsday, and will have a larger effect on the greater plot of the MCU and everything, and the more I’ve been sitting with it, the less the ending bothers me and makes sense to her character. But to be completely honest, the end wasn’t my favorite. I wish they had gone a different direction with it. All this to say though, even though I did not completely enjoy the ending of the show, I really did enjoy Ironheart overall! Maybe I just need to sit with Riri’s character some more, give the show a little rewatch, and think more in the bigger picture of things and how this show will affect the greater MCU. Also Zelma talking with Parker!! I need to know where it’s going. I’m seeing a lot of people saying there may be a potential to have a version of Strange Academy, and I would love to see that! Bring back our witches! Give us more Jen and Zelma, give us more America Chavez! What did you all think of Ironheart? I’ve been seeing such positive feedback online, and that makes me so happy! Dominique Thorne deserves all the praise for her acting in this role, and I’m excited to see more of her soon—hopefully in Doomsday! Until next time my loves :) -Jess <3 ⚠️This blog post contains spoilers for episodes 1-3 of Ironheart⚠️
Happy Thursday, my friends! Hope this week has been treating you all well. I’ve been consuming a ton of new media this week, one of those including the first three episodes of the newest Marvel show, Ironheart! You all know I’m always so excited for new Marvel projects, and this one was no exception. I’ve been missing some Iron Man type action, and this show absolutely brings that (and more!) back to the table. So let’s jump into it! Let’s dive into that first episode. As someone who grew up in the Boston area, it’s always so exciting to see it represented in projects. I loved getting to see a little more of Riri at MIT on the screen! But of course, that was short lived when Riri was expelled from the school. I loved how her AI in her suit at the beginning was supposed to be a little spin on Clippy, the clip art paper clip. One of my favorite things about these Marvel projects is getting to learn more of the lore behind all of the newer characters we have, so this episode was especially exciting getting to learn more about Riri’s family, and her history with Natalie, her bestie. I also super enjoyed getting to see how she handled the elevator scene, trying to escape the poisonous gas! It’s clear Parker wanted her to solve it a particular way, to get the gas mask, but she went a whole other route and basically broke down the elevator. I think that’s also such a great way to show that Riri beats to her own drum, and finds her own way. The crew she’s been working with these last three episodes is so fun. I especially love Shea Couleé’s character. They are absolutely killing it, and I’m always cracking up when they are on the screen 😂 And then of course, episode one ends with Riri waking up to her accidental creation of the N.A.T.A.L.I.E. AI. Such a cool twist! I was so curious to see what direction they were going to go with Riri’s AI, and I was really happy with what they ended up doing with N.A.T.A.L.I.E. I know in the comics, there is a version where Riri uses Tony Stark as her AI, but I was pretty sure they weren’t going to go that route (especially since they have RDJ currently contracted as Doom. It just seemed unlikely.) So this was a great outcome! Alrighty, episode two. We get the first in-action job with The Hood’s team. This episode was SUPER cool. I love how the MCU is constantly thinking of new technology to incorporate into their stories—like these underground car tunnels in this episode. Super super creative, and it was such an awesome way to watch Riri interact with N.A.T.A.L.I.E. and the tech around her. And of course, this is the episode we are first introduced to Joe. The scene of the two of them belting songs together in the car was cracking me up 😂 and I loved how even though he’s a black market arm’s dealer, he’s like the chillest version of them ever HAHAH. He’s so gentle for someone who sells all these illegal weapons. Especially with his little “Live, Laugh, Love” signs everywhere 🤭 I’m also interested in N.A.T.A.L.I.E. glitching when she was reminded of her real-life counterpart’s death. I feel that this isn’t actually a glitch in N.A.T.A.L.I.E.’s firmware, but rather because Riri still has not processed or fully grieved the death of her best friend and her stepfather, and this probably translated over when she did her brain scan to create N.A.T.A.L.I.E. I’m curious to see how the MCU continues to address this as the show goes on, because it’s such a heavy topic. But I love love love how Marvel has been so unafraid lately to discuss topics of mental health with their characters. I feel like it makes them seem more real, in a way. Not perfect super-beings. Let’s wrap this up with episode three! I’m so excited to learn more about The Hood and his past. Especially as they feed us little details here and there, like the scaling on his back, and how at the end he’s yelling at someone, or something? My guess right now is that maybe he is in talks with Dormammu? I could be TOTALLY off on that one, though. I guess only time will tell! I also thought N.A.T.A.L.I.E. having a little necklace piece that Riri wears was such a cute way to untether her from the suit (I hope they sell that as an actual jewelry piece!). And then THE OBADIAH STANE CONNECTION?! I could scream. Joe actually being Ezekiel Stane was a CRAZY plot twist I was not expecting (also him keeping his father’s ashes in a ziplock bag is WILDDDD hahaha 😂). What a cool way to tie in some past Iron Man connection while still keeping the story fresh and new with Riri. It was a perfect tie in, in my opinion. And then we get left on quite a cliffhanger, with Riri losing the biomesh skin and having a pretty bad panic attack. But we know our girl is smart—she’ll figure this out! Also can we talk real quick about how fun the title cards for each episode have been? I love that they incorporate them into the scenes, like Riri crashing into the street, or the money raining from the ceiling in episode three. This project has been so fun and creative so far, and I cannot wait to see what the last three episodes next week bring us! I wish this show was on a one-episode-weekly release schedule so we could extend the love—it’s been so much fun so far! What do you all think of Ironheart so far? Feel free to drop a comment below, or in my Instagram Subscriber Broadcast! I love seeing what you all are thinking about current projects :) Until next week’s review! -Jess <3 Happy Wednesday, my friends! Despite the chaos of the world, I hope that things have been well with all of you and you are enjoying these beginning days of summer. There is so much to look forward to in the coming months in terms of fandom projects! We’ve got Iron Heart, Elio, Superman, Fantastic Four, the new Jurassic World movie, and the live action How To Train Your Dragon project that just came out this past Friday! I still have to get to the theater to see it, but I’ve heard great things about it so far and am really excited to see what they’ve done with it.
Things on my end have been super chaotic, but going well! Summer always tends to be busy season for content creation (probably because there are so many new things coming out and lots of fun activities to do!) so I’ve been trying to juggle my day-to-day life tasks with some up and coming fun things I have planned—like VidCon! I am going to be attending VidCon this week and will be in the Anaheim area, so if you happen to see me, feel free to stop me and say hi! One of my absolute favorite things about content creation is being able to connect with all of you and talk about our favorite fandom things together. It’s one of the coolest things we have with the internet—I love how my community is just one big family of fandom-loving friends! This is quite a short blog post compared to my last few, but that’s basically all I got for you guys today! Just over here working on some content this afternoon, and really trying to take in the sunshine now that it’s here. Also by the way, if you’ve been reading these blogs, I love you love you love you bunches! I know there is SO much content to consume on a daily basis, and the fact that some of you chose to take time out of your day to read these is not lost on me. You guys are the best! <3 Also, if you’re a frequent blog reader, react in my broadcast channel to this week’s blog link with a 🐳 emoji. “Yes whale!!” (If you know, you know 😌). Until next week’s blog! xoxo <3 -Jess 💕 |
